The UConn men’s basketball team landed one of the most potent scorers left in the transfer portal on Tuesday in Wofford guard Nils Machowski, according to a report from Jonathan Givony.
Machowski, a 6-foot-3 combo guard from Berlin, Germany, visited Storrs over the weekend.
He played his first two college seasons in a limited role at UCF before spending his junior year at Wofford, where he finished as the seventh-leading scorer in the Southern Conference at 17.2 points per game. He put up 7.4 3-point attempts per game and connected at a 38.2% clip last season.
The Huskies’ newest addition showed off his rebounding ability with the Terriers, averaging 5.7 rebounds per game last season in addition to his 2.6 assists. He will fit into the Huskies’ rotation as a reserve in the backcourt, likely behind returning star Braylon Mullins at the two.
Machowski spent last season mostly on the wing for Wofford, but came into college after playing point guard for Alba Berlin’s U19 team, where he won back-to-back championships in Germany in 2022 and 2023.
Machowski had three 30-point games last season, including a career-high 37-point effort against the Citadel where he shot 8-for-11 from beyond the arc. He made at least seven 3-pointers in all three 30-point games and made at least four triples in 11 different games throughout the year. Machowski also had five different games with at least 11 rebounds.
UConn’s rotation is nearly settled with the latest additions of Machowski and former Stanford center Oskar Giltay. The Huskies will look to add a rotational four-man before filling out the roster with depth and developmental pieces to serve primarily as practice players.
The Huskies, led by returners Silas Demary Jr., Braylon Mullins and Jayden Ross, are set up to be contenders again. The roster is currently at 10 players, with four new additions coming from the portal as Machowski and Giltay join former Seton Hall center Najai Hines and Duke wing Nik Khamenia. UConn is also expecting incoming freshmen Junior County and Colben Landrew to impact the rotation right away.
