Their professional history dates back to the Houston Texans in 2016-17 and flourished in Tennessee, where Vrabel, as head coach, promoted Bowen to defensive coordinator in 2021. Their collaborative tenure with the Titans lasted through the 2023 season.

Bowen, 39, most recently served as the defensive coordinator for the New York Giants for the past two seasons. His addition to the Patriots staff comes after he was considered a candidate for New England's defensive coordinator role in February, a position that ultimately went to Zak Kuhr.
