Lawrence had previously requested a trade as the sides have come to an impasse in contract talks.

The New York Giants' defensive line faces potential upheaval as star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence has reportedly requested a trade, signaling a significant rift with the franchise. According to a report by Paul Schwartz of the New York Post, the dispute has escalated beyond contract negotiations, with Lawrence seeking a fresh start elsewhere.

While Lawrence has two years remaining on his current deal, averaging $22.5 million annually, his desire for a raise has been known since the 2025 offseason. The Giants previously added $3 million in incentives to his contract last year, which he successfully earned, bringing his total to $18 million. However, talks have now reached an impasse, shifting the team's immediate focus to the upcoming NFL Draft.

General Manager Joe Schoen recently described discussions as "good conversations" with hopes of retaining the defensive anchor. Despite this public optimism, Lawrence is currently skipping the team's offseason program, a clear sign of his discontent. A three-time Pro Bowler, Lawrence has been a force since being drafted 17th overall in 2019, amassing 30.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, and an interception in his career.

This situation leaves a major question mark on the Giants' defensive front. Losing a player of Lawrence's caliber would create a massive void, forcing the team to reconsider its defensive strategy and roster construction moving forward.
