Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer is the greatest goalkeeper of all time.

This was never up for debate, and tonight’s performance against Bayer Leverkusen in the DFB-Pokal semifinal capped what could be yet another historic season for a goalkeeper with an unmatched trophy cabinet. Another treble is a real possibility, and the club executives may have seen enough to offer the 40-year-old an extension.

Speaking to Florian Plettenberg (@Plettigoal) of Sky Germany, Manuel Neuer emphasized that [he is] “Not going to announce anything right now.” He quickly followed with, “But at the moment it looks good.”

Hmmm, somebody might be getting a contract extension!

In the tweet, Plettenberg added that FC Bayern want to extend his contract until 2027 and that there is growing optimism within the club that he will extend his contract again. He then highlighted that no decision has yet been made.

It makes sense that the club and the player are all playing coy, since a lot goes on behind the scenes when it comes to contract negotiations, game time, squad planning, etc. We can certainly expect to hear more soon, but at the moment, it does look quite likely that Manuel Neuer might receive a one-year extension through summer 2027. Perhaps this is all the time Jonas Urbig needs under Neuer’s tutelage to grow into the bonafide starter role he covets.
