Renan "Problema" Ferreira isn't just a nickname—it's a warning. The 260-pound PFL heavyweight has built a reputation as a walking knockout threat, and he's noticed that opponents are increasingly reluctant to test his power on the feet. After recent fights against Francis Ngannou and Vadim Nemkov saw both rivals immediately shoot for takedowns, Ferreira is adapting his game plan with a humorous but pointed message.

"Everyone who fights me wants to grapple, wants to wrestle, so I'm already aware of that," Ferreira told reporters. "From now on, I'm gonna turn into a wrestler in this sport."

The 2023 PFL season winner will face Sergey Bilostenniy this Saturday at PFL Sioux Falls, a matchup that on paper promises fireworks. Bilostenniy, a Russian heavyweight, has nine of his 14 career wins by knockout, and Ferreira believes the clash of styles could produce an exciting fight. But he's not holding his breath for a pure stand-up battle.

"He's a fast guy, he moves well," Ferreira said. "He's not that big, more of a lighter guy, so it's a good fight. But it is what it is."

Ferreira understands why opponents choose to grapple. "People know my strengths. I have good distance, good movement, and I can counter very well. They don't want to take risks. They want to get into a grappling game, close the distance—where they have a bit more advantage—and reduce my power."

But "Problema" isn't one-dimensional. He's used takedowns himself and knows the value of a well-rounded game, especially in the heavyweight division where one mistake can end a fight.

"We always train grappling, wrestling, everything, and we're ready for all areas," Ferreira explained. "Heavyweight is no joke. Once someone ends up on top, if they've got heavy hips and know how to position and strike from the top, it's hard for the opponent to get back up. Every time I've been on top, nobody gets up. It's complicated, but I'm ready."

At 36 years old and coming off consecutive losses, Ferreira insists he feels no added pressure. Instead, he's focused on what's ahead in the PFL heavyweight division.

"I had those setbacks, but they were against elite guys, the very top of the top," he said. "Just having the opportunity to be there means I belong."

Whether he's throwing bombs or shooting for takedowns, one thing is certain: Renan Ferreira is ready to remind everyone why he's called "Problema."
