There's finally some positive news coming out of Cobham, as Chelsea's injury list shows signs of easing ahead of Monday night's clash. Interim head coach Calum McFarlane confirmed in today's press conference that both Reece James and Levi Colwill have returned to full training and are now in contention for matchday selection—a welcome boost for a squad that's been stretched thin in recent weeks.

However, the club is taking a deliberately cautious approach with both players, and for good reason. Colwill's absence has been particularly long; the young defender has been sidelined since preseason after suffering a torn ACL, a devastating injury that requires a careful, phased return to action. On the other side, James has finally enjoyed a sustained run of fitness this season after years of frustrating setbacks, so the medical staff are understandably keen to avoid rushing him back and risking another lengthy spell on the sidelines.

"We've got Reece back in training, Levi is back in training, both looking good," McFarlane said. "A little bit away to the game, so we'll see how they do day by day, but both are looking promising."

The interim boss elaborated on the club's patient approach: "We're taking it day by day, and obviously Levi's had a long injury. Reece had a really good run and has been injured again, and there's a lot of games still to play, so we don't want to push too much. Potentially, yeah, they could be in the squad."

While the season is winding down, the timing of their return couldn't be more crucial. With cup football still on the line—including a potential FA Cup final appearance—having two key defenders fully recovered could make all the difference. For now, fans will be keeping their fingers crossed that this cautious approach pays off when it matters most.
