The East Forsyth varsity baseball team got a terrific pitching performance from Christina Noyola on Tuesday but came up just short in a 2-1 loss to Reagan in the semifinals of the Piedmont Triad 7-A/8A Conference Tournament on Tuesday night at Northwest Guilford High School. The East Forsyth varsity baseball team delivered a gutsy performance on Tuesday night, but it wasn't enough to topple the powerhouse Reagan Raiders. In a tightly contested Piedmont Triad 7-A/8A Conference Tournament semifinal at Northwest Guilford High School, the Eagles fell just short, 2-1.

Christina Noyola was the star of the show for East Forsyth, throwing a complete game that had his coach beaming. "It was the best game he has thrown all year," said Eagles Head Coach Drew Dull. "He commanded three pitches, threw a bunch of strikes, and attacked hitters. He did everything we ask our pitchers to do." Noyola's effort kept the Eagles in the game against a Reagan squad that entered the night undefeated in conference play and ranked No. 3 in the state by MaxPreps.

The Eagles struck first in the top of the third inning. Craig McGhee led off with a single to right field and quickly swiped second base. With two outs and McGhee racing to third, Dalton Davsko hit a ball up the middle. The throw to first pulled the Reagan first baseman off the bag, and McGhee never stopped running, scoring from third to give East Forsyth a 1-0 lead.

Reagan answered in the bottom of the fourth, tying the game and taking the lead with a two-run rally. The Raiders opened the inning with a double and a single, then scored their first run on a fielder's choice. A wild pitch moved a runner to third, and a two-out infield single brought home the go-ahead run.

The Eagles had a golden opportunity to tie or take the lead in the top of the fifth. After drawing three walks to load the bases, they brought Chase Smith to the plate—the exact hitter Dull wanted in that spot. "He hit an absolute missile," Dull said, "but their third baseman snagged it and threw out Carter Long." It was a game-saving play for Reagan, who held on for the win.

Asa Coplin earned the win for the Raiders with five innings of work, and Eli Zagarski closed the door for the save. Reagan improved to 21-2 on the season, while East Forsyth dropped to 13-13.

Despite the loss, the Eagles have plenty to look forward to. They'll advance to the Class 7A playoffs, and with pairings set to be announced Monday, Dull expects a first-round home game on Tuesday. The seedings are based on the Rating Percentage Index (RPI), a formula that factors in winning percentage (40%), opponents' record (40%), and opponents' opponents' winning percentage (20%). "In the 7A West, we've played the toughest schedule of anybody," Dull said. "Our opponents' winning percentage is through the roof."

For East Forsyth, the narrow loss to a top-tier team like Reagan is a sign that they can compete with the best. With the playoffs on the horizon, the Eagles will look to build on this performance and make a deep run.
