Gilbert High School is celebrating a winning week, as two of its standout athletes have been named the Ames Tribune's Athletes of the Week for April 26 to May 2. Girls soccer star Raya Mueller and track and field powerhouse Carson Squiers earned top honors after impressive performances that had fans voting in droves.

Mueller claimed the female Athlete of the Week title with a commanding 46% of the vote. The Class 2A No. 11 Gilbert Tigers' forward was on fire, scoring multiple goals in two consecutive victories. She netted a brace in a dominant 5-0 win over rival Nevada on April 30, then followed up with two more goals and an assist in a 4-0 shutout at Mason City the next day. Her consistency in front of the net has been a key driver for the Tigers' strong season.

On the track, Squiers sprinted to the male Athlete of the Week trophy with 52% of the vote. He was a relay machine at the Bengal Relays on April 29, helping Gilbert secure two relay wins. Squiers ran the second leg of the 4x400-meter relay, which clocked a winning time of 3:33.38, and anchored the 4x800-meter relay to victory in 8:04.20. His versatility and speed make him a vital asset for the Tigers' track squad.

Both athletes exemplify the dedication and talent that make high school sports so exciting. Whether on the pitch or the track, Mueller and Squiers are proving that hard work pays off—and their community is taking notice.
