College football's magic lives in its stadiums—the roaring crowds, the marching bands, and the traditions that make Saturdays unforgettable. But in an era where dollars often dictate decisions, more and more games are leaving campus for neutral sites, including NFL stadiums and international venues. The 2026 season is no exception, featuring a record three games abroad and a total of 13 neutral-site matchups. We've ranked every one of them, from the least exciting to the absolute must-watch.
13. Central Michigan vs. Eastern Michigan (Nov. 4 at Ford Field, Detroit)
This MAC rivalry usually thrives on campus, where the energy is intimate and raw. Last year, the Chippewas topped the Eagles in Mount Pleasant, but instead of heading to Ypsilanti for the rematch, these two will make a short trip to the Motor City on a Wednesday night. While "Motor City MACtion" has its charm, moving a historic rivalry off-campus on a weekday feels like a missed opportunity for the fans who love the home-field edge.
12. Miami (Ohio) vs. Cincinnati (Sept. 19 at Paycor Stadium, Cincinnati)
The Battle for the Victory Bell is a classic Ohio showdown, but this year it skips both Yager Stadium and Nippert Stadium for the Bengals' home turf. The Redhawks and Bearcats have played this game at neutral sites in 2014, 2018, and 2022, so the pattern is familiar. Still, the rivalry loses some of its bite when neither team has a true home crowd behind them.
11. NC State vs. Virginia (Aug. 29 at Nilton Santos Stadium, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)
College football goes international in Week 0, with these two ACC foes traveling to Brazil. The Wolfpack won last year's meeting in Raleigh, while the Cavaliers surprised many by reaching the ACC title game. The global stage is exciting, but the distance and time zone differences may leave both teams feeling a bit disconnected from their usual support.
