Ten years ago, Claudio Ranieri pulled off what many still call the greatest upset in football history: leading Leicester City to the Premier League title against odds of 5000-1. Now, as the Foxes face relegation to League One—England's third tier—the legendary manager reflects on a miracle that defied logic and reshaped the beautiful game.

"There was an incredible positive energy behind the team at that time," Ranieri recalled in an interview with Sky Sport Italia. "But I was only convinced I would win the Premier League when I actually won it."

When Ranieri took over in 2015, Leicester was seen as a yo-yo club, bouncing between divisions. The president's goal was modest: reach 40 points and avoid relegation. "I arrived, the team was in a training retreat because they'd sacked the coach. I had two days to prepare, watching games from previous seasons," Ranieri said. "I changed a few things—they were used to a different system. I saw players who needed adjustments, and from there, the team really started to push."

That season, Leicester defied every expectation, leaving behind clubs with massive budgets and glittering trophy cabinets. Jamie Vardy, once a non-league player, became a Premier League icon. The club's rise was so improbable that singer-songwriter Sayf, who sat down with Ranieri to commemorate the anniversary, once said his own unexpected hit made him feel like Leicester City.

But as the Foxes now prepare for life in League One after back-to-back relegations, the magnitude of that 2016 triumph becomes even clearer. "This was considered a yo-yo team, they'd go up and down the divisions," Ranieri noted. "When the President hired me, he asked to get 40 points and secure safety from relegation as early as possible. From there, a legend was born."

For fans and players alike, that season wasn't about a single turning point—it was about belief, tweaks, and an unshakable spirit. As Ranieri put it, "I started tweaking things, and from there a legend was born." And legends, even when their teams fall, never truly fade.
