According to a recent report from The Herald, the Gers are eyeing a summer move for the 27-year-old after failing to secure a loan deal with AEK Athens earlier this year. With Jayden Meghoma set to return to Brentford by the end of this month, the timing could be perfect for Rangers to strengthen their defensive options.
Penrice's journey has been one of steady growth and determination. Born in Livingston, he came through the ranks at Partick Thistle, honing his skills in the Championship and League One with loan spells at East Fife and Livingston. After establishing himself as a key player for Partick Thistle, he made a permanent switch to Livingston in 2021, where he became a regular fixture in the Scottish Premiership over three seasons. Following Livingston's relegation in 2024, Penrice joined Hearts on a free transfer, making 46 appearances in the 2024-25 season despite the Jambos' struggles.
His impressive form didn't go unnoticed. Hearts accepted a £2 million bid from AEK Athens last summer, and Penrice has since thrived in Greece. With 32 appearances across all competitions, he played a vital role in AEK's Super League triumph, adding a league-winning medal to his growing resume.
Rangers were keen on Penrice during the January transfer window but turned their attention to Tuur Rommens after AEK rejected their advances. Rommens has been a revelation since breaking into the starting XI, bringing energy, defensive composure, and attacking flair to the left-back position.
