Some shocking news out of the Los Angeles Rams camp leading into this week’s draft.
Backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who has played for four different teams in his career, is considering retiring.
The Rams were waiting to see whether Garoppolo planned to return to the team, and it sounds like he may not.
Injuries might be the primary reason Garoppolo may retire cause he has suffered several over the years.
Another reason may be that he is no longer a starting quarterback. Jimmy G was a starter with the Las Vegas Raiders and briefly with the San Francisco 49ers.
But for the last few years, he has been the backup to Matthew Stafford in Los Angeles, but he may see that the market is not hot for him anymore, which may also play in this decision.
This may change the whole draft for the Rams. With Jimmy G considering retirement, the Rams may look to draft a quarterback.
Does that mean Ty Simpson? Probably not, however, it may not be a bad idea to draft someone in the later rounds to back up Stafford.
Even if Jimmy G. does return for one more season, it shouldn’t keep the Rams from drafting for their future.
