Les Snead and Sean McVay have drafted well enough in recent years that they should be trusted with any decisions they make. That being said, there have been some questions about their haul in this year’s draft, most notably with regards to taking Ty Simpson at No. 13.

Dane Brugler of The Athletic didn’t love the Rams’ class, which featured four offensive players and one on defense. He ranked every team’s draft class from best to worst and the Rams landed at No. 30, ahead of only the Denver Broncos and the last-ranked Jacksonville Jaguars.

Surprisingly, Brugler’s favorite pick was the Rams’ first, though he admits he “didn’t love the Simpson pick.” As for a Day 3 pick who could surprise, he only had two to choose from: CJ Daniels or Tim Keenan III. Brugler picked Daniels.

I didn’t love the Simpson pick, especially at No. 13. But of the Rams’ five selections, he was probably my favorite — there is a very realistic path for him to become a quality NFL starter. We can revisit this in three years …

Day 3 pick who could surprise: CJ Daniels, WR, Miami

There were only two options to choose from here, and I lean toward the offensive weapon who could see early playing time. Though I don’t think Daniels has a difference-making trait, he has a package of skills that’s easy to appreciate.

It wasn’t the most conventional draft for the Rams, who are seen as a team in win-now mode. But they took care of some future needs at quarterback, tight end and along the offensive line with their top three picks.

Daniels helps at wide receiver alongside Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, while Keenan bolsters the D-line behind Poona Ford as a true run-stopping nose tackle. Time will tell how this class turns out but experts have mostly set their expectations low for Los Angeles' haul.
