Ralf Schumacher has suggested that Lewis Hamilton’s early-season form may have been misleading, and that it might be time for the veteran to step aside in favour of Oliver Bearman at Ferrari. Hamilton came home sixth at the Miami Grand Prix, with his teammate Charles Leclerc receiving a 20-second penalty after the race.

Ralf Schumacher has stirred up the paddock by suggesting that Lewis Hamilton's early-season form with Ferrari may have been a mirage, and it's time for the seven-time world champion to step aside for young talent Oliver Bearman.

Hamilton finished a modest sixth at the Miami Grand Prix, while teammate Charles Leclerc was hit with a 20-second penalty after the race. The veteran's start to life at Maranello showed early promise, but his performance levels have dipped noticeably in recent races—partly due to Ferrari not addressing his concerns during last month's five-week break.

But Schumacher, speaking on Backstage Boxengasse, sees it differently. He believes Hamilton should call time on his F1 career and give the 19-year-old Bearman a shot at the Scuderia. "Lewis Hamilton is obviously in a better position this year," Schumacher said. "But he probably won't have a chance against Leclerc in the long run. Since you mentioned Bearman, it's about time… Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton have had a wonderful time in Formula 1. But I think it's time for them to leave the cockpit at the end of the year and give young people a chance."

Schumacher doubled down on why Ferrari should pivot to Bearman, arguing that Hamilton's presence limits opportunities for rising stars from Formula 2. "They want to keep the brand of Lewis Hamilton," he explained. "There are a lot of good young drivers coming from Formula 2 who deserve a chance. I hope the grid will be a bit younger next year. Bearman definitely deserves the chance to sit in the Ferrari."

For fans tracking the latest F1 gear and driver news, this debate adds another layer to an already thrilling season—and a reminder that even legends face the clock.
