"Too much now": NBA Fans Turn on Jaden McDaniels After Slapping Stephon Castle in Game 3

Fans react to Jaden McDaniels' scuffle with Stephon Castle in Game 3 as the Spurs take a 2-1 lead over the Timberwolves.

The tension in the Western Conference semifinals just went from playoff intensity to personal. In a game that saw Victor Wembanyama drop a monster 39-point, 15-rebound performance, it wasn't the Spurs' superstar who stole the headlines—it was a heated sideline scuffle that has fans turning on Timberwolves forward Jaden McDaniels.

San Antonio took a commanding 2-1 series lead over Minnesota with a 115-108 win at Target Center on Friday. Wembanyama was the engine, but rookie guard Stephon Castle also chipped in with a solid 13 points and 12 assists. Yet, the postgame chatter has centered on an ugly altercation between Castle and McDaniels late in the third quarter.

With just over four minutes left in the period, a scramble for a loose ball sent Spurs rookie Dylan Harper crashing to the floor after his head smacked into McDaniels' knee. As officials paused play to check on Harper, McDaniels and Castle squared up, exchanging words and getting nose-to-nose. Video of the moment quickly went viral, with a close-up angle appearing to show McDaniels slapping Castle before teammates and referees rushed in to separate them.

The league handed both players technical fouls, but the court of public opinion has been much harsher on McDaniels. Critics argue his aggressive demeanor is more bark than bite—often initiating confrontations only to be held back by his own teammates, just as he was here.

"This McDaniels acting tough act is getting lame," one fan posted. Another added, "Jaden McDaniels is feeling himself TOO much now... dude posted up against Nikola Jokic... thinks he's some untouchable." A third chimed in, "This dude's whole playoffs has been trying to fight people." And perhaps the most pointed comment: "The fake tough guy aura in the NBA needs to be studied. Everybody suddenly wants to be the enforcer until someone actually swings back."

On the court, the Timberwolves now face a must-win Game 4 to avoid falling into a 3-1 hole. But off the court, McDaniels has some serious reputation repair to do.
