Bayern Munich have officially confirmed that Nicolas Jackson will return to Chelsea when his loan spell ends this season, but it turns out their head coach may have had other plans.

According to German football icon Lothar Matthäus, Bayern boss Vincent Kompany was keen to keep the striker in Munich. The only problem? The price tag. Jackson's purchase option is reportedly set at a hefty €65 million—a figure Bayern deemed too steep.

"Kompany is convinced of Jackson, and he would have liked to keep him in Munich. But he is too expensive," Matthäus revealed on the show 'Sky90 – die Fußballdebatte'. "Kompany has made it clear internally that he would like to keep Jackson, but likely only at a certain price that his employer, Chelsea, will not necessarily accept."

Jackson, 24, has made a solid impact during his time in Germany, netting 10 goals in 33 appearances for Bayern. While his loan stint may be ending, this situation highlights the delicate balance clubs face between ambition and budget—a familiar challenge in the high-stakes world of European football.
