Hutchins was selected in the seventh round of this year’s NFL Draft.

When the New England Patriots opened their doors to local college prospects just two weeks before the NFL Draft, one player stood out from the crowd. Quintayvious Hutchins, an edge defender from Boston College, walked into Gillette Stadium ready to prove himself — and he did just that.

Selected in the seventh round of this year's draft, Hutchins wasn't just another name on the board. He had already caught the Patriots' attention at the Scouting Combine in late February. But it was his willingness to go the extra mile — literally showing up for a local workout when most Combine participants would have passed — that sealed the deal.

"A lot of times guys that worked out at the Combine aren't willing to do that," said Eliot Wolf, the Patriots' executive vice president of player personnel. "He showed what kind of competitor he is." Wolf noted that head coach Mike Vrabel even got in on the action, testing Hutchins' strength with a pad drill. "It was pretty cool to see."

This relentless drive is nothing new for the 23-year-old. During his college career at Boston College, Hutchins started 16 games on the edge, logged an average of 110 special teams snaps per non-redshirt season, and even briefly switched to tight end. That versatility isn't just a resume builder — it's a mindset built for NFL survival.

"You're going to get an energetic, young kid that's ready to work and put one foot in the door to lead to two," Hutchins said during his introductory media call. He's confident his special teams background will be his ticket to making an impact. "My career started out with kickoffs, kickoff return, punt, punt block. I'm a hard worker, a third-down guy, and a run stopper. I've got bend and explosiveness when it counts."

Wolf summed it up simply: "Really, really physical player." For Hutchins, that physicality — and his willingness to earn every rep — might just be the edge he needs to turn a seventh-round pick into a lasting NFL career.
