A new era is set to begin for Quinnipiac women's basketball. The university announced Tuesday that Roman Owen, an associate head coach at UNLV, has been named the program's next head coach, tasked with following the legendary tenure of Tricia Fabbri.
Owen brings a wealth of experience to Hamden, having spent the last six seasons helping lead the UNLV Rebels. His coaching journey also includes a key assistant role at Yale from 2015 to 2018, giving him valuable familiarity with the Northeast basketball landscape.
In a statement, Owen expressed his excitement for the challenge, saying, "I would like to thank Greg Amodio and President Marie Hardin for this tremendous opportunity... A strong foundation is in place, and I look forward to building on it as we pursue conference championships and postseason success."
He steps into sizable shoes, succeeding Fabbri, who retired earlier this month after an incredible 31-season run. Fabbri built Quinnipiac into a mid-major power, guiding the Bobcats to five NCAA Tournament appearances and a memorable Sweet 16 run in 2017.
The appointment signals Quinnipiac's clear intent to maintain its competitive standard. Owen's proven track record in player development and program building will be crucial as he looks to write the next chapter for the Bobcats.
