Holders Paris Saint-Germain reached the Champions League final with a controversial 1-1 draw at Bayern Munich, who felt aggrieved by major refereeing decisions going against them on Wednesday. The 6-5 aggregate semi-final victory for PSG sets up a clash with Arsenal in the final in Budapest on May 30.

Holders Paris Saint-Germain punched their ticket to the Champions League final after a tense 1-1 draw at Bayern Munich, but the night was overshadowed by controversy as the German giants fumed over key refereeing decisions. The 6-5 aggregate victory sets up a blockbuster final against Arsenal in Budapest on May 30, with PSG aiming to defend their crown and claim a second consecutive European title.

The visitors struck early when Khvicha Kvaratskhelia exploited space on the left flank, squaring for Ousmane Dembélé to fire into the roof of the net. Bayern's Harry Kane, largely quiet throughout, pulled one back in injury time, but it was too little, too late for the hosts.

"We don't have players, we have warriors," PSG president Nasser al-Khelaïfi told Canal Plus, reflecting the grit that saw his side through a rollercoaster tie. Last week's first leg in France was a 5-4 thriller, hailed as one of the best games in recent memory. The return leg, however, was a far more tactical affair, with PSG showing defensive discipline while Bayern's frustration mounted over Portuguese referee João Pinheiro's performance.

The flashpoint came in the first half when PSG's Nuno Mendes escaped a second yellow card for handball—only because the referee had already blown his whistle for a similar offense by Bayern's Konrad Laimer moments earlier. Replays showed the ball hit Laimer in the chest, not his hand, but VAR couldn't intervene as it was a yellow card decision. "It is hard, always, when you go out in a game like that. It really hurts. It is clearly another yellow card for him. It's bitter," Laimer told DAZN.

Bayern also appealed for a handball against João Neves in the box, with the Portugal midfielder's arm away from his body as he deflected a clearance from his own teammate. VAR stayed silent due to complex rules around defenders clearing the ball, adding to the sense of injustice.

Despite the controversy, PSG arguably deserved to advance over two legs. They now face an Arsenal side they knocked out in last season's semi-finals, setting up a compelling rematch. The near-perennial French champions, however, have yet to seal the Ligue 1 title this season and are already out of the French Cup, making European glory their primary focus.

For Bayern, a six-time European Cup winner, the exit is a bitter pill—but for PSG, the dream of back-to-back titles is very much alive.
