In a major recruiting win for Penn State, Xaverian Brothers (Mass.) quarterback Will Wood announced his commitment to the Nittany Lions on Friday, choosing to take his prolific arm to Happy Valley.

The 6-foot-1½, 205-pound signal-caller—who threw for over 2,800 yards and 42 touchdowns against just one interception as a junior—selected Penn State over offers from Boston College, North Carolina, and Stanford, among others.

Wood cited the strong relationships he built during the recruiting process, particularly with future position coach Jake Waters, as a key factor in his decision. "I got really close with Coach Waters. I really like the way he coaches," Wood said. He also noted the connection with head coach Matt Campbell: "Coach Campbell is very similar to my high school coach, and I have a former teammate that plays there."

After visiting State College multiple times this spring, Wood felt an undeniable pull. "They made me a priority, and I just fell in love with the campus. I have family that lives an hour and a half away," he added.

Wood is equally bullish on the program's future under Campbell's leadership. "His No. 1 priority is finding guys that fit his culture, and his culture is always going to be strong," Wood explained. "Now that he’s at Penn State, he’ll be able to bring in the talent around that, and I think they’ll be a perennial Top 10 team."

Ranked as the nation's No. 28 quarterback in the 2027 class by Rivals, Wood joins a Nittany Lions recruiting class already ranked No. 15 nationally. With Campbell's proven track record at Iowa State and Penn State's big-time resources, Wood believes the sky's the limit: "That coaching staff had a lot of success at Iowa State, and now they have big-time resources to take it to the next level."
