Get ready for a thrilling display of strength, skill, and safety as the 2026 North American Tree Climbing Championship (NATCC) makes its historic debut in Ohio! Hosted by the Davey Tree Expert Co. at their brand-new Science, Employee Education and Development (SEED) Campus in Kent, this high-flying event runs from May 15 to 17 and promises three days of action-packed competition, family fun, and industry innovation.

For the first time ever, the championship is coming to the Buckeye State, and it’s bringing a full lineup of jaw-dropping events that test the athleticism and precision of the world’s best tree climbers. Competitors will go head-to-head in five challenging disciplines: aerial rescue, work climb, ascent, belayed speed climb, and throwline. These events aren’t just about speed—they showcase technique, agility, and a deep commitment to safety and proper tree care, as highlighted by Davey in their announcement.

But the action isn’t limited to the climbers! The accompanying Arbor Fair will be a hub for tree care enthusiasts, featuring booths from top industry sponsors, gear suppliers, and tree care companies. When you need a break from the excitement, fuel up at one of the many food trucks on site, including Moonstone Coffee Works, Brooks Homestyle BBQ, Travelin’ Tom’s Coffee Truck, Southern Comfort Kitchen, and Roll Call Burgers and Fries. It’s a perfect blend of sport and community for the whole family.

Getting there is a breeze: park at Davey’s corporate office at 1500 N. Mantua Street, where free shuttles will whisk you to the nearby SEED Campus. This nearly 200-acre facility is a game-changer for the industry, dedicated to specialized training and cutting-edge research. “Our new SEED Campus was built to revolutionize training and research in the industry, and we’re looking forward to welcoming ISA members and the public to experience it firsthand,” said Pat Covey, chairman, president, and CEO of Davey Tree.

The International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) is partnering with the Ohio Chapter ISA and Davey Tree to bring this event to life. And there’s an extra layer of inspiration this year: 2026 marks the 25th anniversary of female climbers competing in the NATCC, with the largest field of women competitors in the event’s history. It’s a milestone that underscores the growing diversity and talent in the sport.

Competition format is straightforward but intense. First, second, and third place awards will be given for both men and women in each of the five events. Then, total scores from all five disciplines are combined, and the top male and female competitors advance to the Masters Challenge. This final round is a single event judged purely on technique and skill, where the climbers with the highest scores are crowned the male and female NATCC Champions. Whether you’re a seasoned arborist or just love a good athletic showdown, this is an event you won’t want to miss!
