Get ready, college football fans—one of the most electrifying quarterback prospects in the 2027 recruiting cycle is about to make his decision. Wonderful Monds IV, a four-star talent out of Vero Beach, Florida, is set to announce his commitment live on The Pat McAfee Show this Friday, May 1, at 1:05 p.m. ET. And for Florida State, this could be a game-changer.
Monds, who originally ranked among the top players in the 2028 class, reclassified and now stands as one of the most coveted uncommitted quarterbacks in the nation. The Seminoles have been in hot pursuit since offering him a scholarship on June 12, 2024—back when he was just a freshman. Since then, FSU has hosted him for multiple visits and even signed two of his high school teammates, Efrem White and Jordan Crutchfield, last year.
But the race is far from over. Monds has narrowed his list to three finalists: Florida State, Ohio State, and Notre Dame. While the Buckeyes already have a quarterback committed, the Fighting Irish appear to have the momentum. Monds' most recent campus visit was to South Bend, and several recruiting predictions have swung in Notre Dame's favor. Still, FSU has the advantage of proximity and a longer recruiting relationship—factors that could tip the scales.
On the field, Monds has shown flashes of brilliance despite limited action. As a freshman at Vero Beach High School, he completed 67.5% of his passes for 2,234 yards, 23 touchdowns, and just five interceptions, while adding 502 rushing yards and nine scores on the ground. A sophomore season cut short by injury still saw him post impressive numbers: 691 passing yards, seven touchdowns, and zero interceptions in five games, with a 71.4% completion rate.
His early production drew attention from over 30 programs, and though his reclassification and injury have limited his high school reps, his raw talent is undeniable. Wherever he lands, Monds has the potential to be a program-changing signal-caller.
For Florida State fans, this commitment is a pivotal moment in their 2027 recruiting efforts. Will the Seminoles' early investment and local ties pay off, or will Notre Dame's late push steal the show? Tune in Friday to find out.
