Blake Bowen of JSerra High School closed out his senior season with a bang—literally. The 6-foot-4 slugger launched three home runs during a dominant three-game sweep of Santa Margarita, capping a remarkable final week for the Lions' baseball team. Though JSerra finished with an 11-17 record, which ended their postseason hopes, Bowen's performance was nothing short of spectacular.
"Too little, too late," coach Brett Kay admitted, but the team's late surge showcased the raw talent of their star player. Bowen finished the season with nine home runs and a .360 batting average, numbers that have caught the attention of scouts ahead of this summer's draft. Kay didn't mince words: "It's the best power I've ever seen for a high school player."
Originally a football player, Bowen transferred from Riverside King to JSerra and committed fully to baseball. His aggressive, hard-charging style—honed on the gridiron—translates seamlessly to the diamond. "Once he comes into his own, he's going to be special," Kay added, hinting at even greater potential.
Despite the overall record, the Lions showed promise with a young roster. Freshman Joey Koenig impressed with his hitting and is expected to develop as a pitcher in the coming years. For fans of high school sports, Bowen's explosive finish is a reminder that even in a tough season, individual brilliance can shine—and that the next wave of baseball talent is already making headlines.
