The battle for a spot in the Class 2A quarterfinals is far from over. After a thrilling split on Thursday, Lindsay Lane and Mars Hill are headed to a decisive Game 3.
It was a day of dramatic swings at the ballpark in Florence. Lindsay Lane snatched a tense 1-0 victory in Game 1, only for Mars Hill to roar back with a 6-2 win in Game 2. Now, all eyes turn to Friday's showdown at Mars Hill, set for 4:30 p.m.
Game 1: A Pitcher's Duel for the Ages
The first game was a masterclass in pitching and defense. For five innings, neither team could break the deadlock. Then, in the sixth, a spark: Grayson Miller reached base on an error, and after a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt from Cooper Abernathy, Wyatt Wallace delivered the game-winning RBI single.
Wallace was just as dominant on the mound, scattering only one hit and striking out four over 6⅓ innings. Miller then slammed the door with a save, tossing ⅔ innings of hitless relief. Mars Hill's Bray Willis was the tough-luck loser, allowing just two hits and one run while striking out five over seven full innings.
Game 2: Mars Hill Answers Back
Just when Lindsay Lane looked ready to close out the series, Mars Hill showed their resilience. The Lions tied the game at 2-2 in the seventh, forcing extra innings. But the Panthers exploded for four runs in the eighth, sending the series to a winner-take-all Game 3.
Grayson Miller and Lincoln Conn led Lindsay Lane's offense in Game 2, each collecting a hit and an RBI. But it wasn't enough to hold off Mars Hill's late surge.
With everything on the line Friday, expect another high-stakes battle between these two evenly matched teams. Who will advance? Only one game will tell.
