It was a championship day across Greater Lansing, with local teams dominating on the tennis court and the softball diamond.
Tennis: Lansing Catholic and Haslett Claim Regional Crowns
The Lansing Catholic girls tennis team made it three in a row, capturing their third straight regional title on Thursday, May 14. In Division 4 action, the Cougars dominated the doubles flights, sweeping all four matches to finish with 19 points. Flint Powers took second with 16 points.
The winning doubles tandems for Lansing Catholic were Lily Rule and Haven Topham at No. 1, Layla Corbit and Zellie Raiche at No. 2, Jayda Stowell and Vivian Shulick at No. 3, and Anna Robinson and Kendall Young at No. 4. Addison Murphy also brought home a title at No. 3 singles.
Over in Division 3, Haslett was equally impressive, rolling to a regional championship with 31 points. The Vikings swept the singles flights and won three doubles flights to secure the title. Fowlerville finished second with 21 points, followed by Williamston with 18.
Gabrielle Asher led the charge at No. 1 singles, while Lexi Pridgeon, Kaia Anastor, and Lauren Richey also captured regional singles championships for Haslett.
Softball: Fowler and Dansville Sweep to CMAC Titles
On the softball diamond, Fowler clinched the outright CMAC title with a dominant doubleheader sweep of Pewamo-Westphalia, winning 6-0 and 17-5. The Eagles used a six-run fourth inning in the opener to back a two-hitter from Selena Stump. Saige Miller sparked the offense with a two-run triple and a single in Game 1, then added three more hits—including a home run and a triple—and five RBI in the nightcap. Fowler broke Game 2 open with an 11-run second inning.
Dansville also swept a CMAC doubleheader, taking down Portland St. Patrick 10-1 and 11-0. Laci Neal was dominant in the opener, striking out 17 while allowing just two hits. Ryker Graf followed with a no-hitter in the finale, fanning 16 batters. Graf also drove in seven runs on the day, including a home run in Game 1. Maddie Carter added five hits and five RBI in the wins.
Lansing Catholic Sweeps East Lansing
Lansing Catholic kept the momentum going with a doubleheader sweep of East Lansing, winning 15-0 and 19-5. Avery Dunneback led the way with five hits, powering the Cougars to the big wins.
