In a spectacular display of power hitting, Covington's Jayda McClure launched two home runs to lead the Lady Buccs to a commanding 23-1 victory over Catholic Central in the opening round of the softball tournament on Monday.
McClure was simply unstoppable at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs scored and five RBIs. She wasn't alone in the offensive onslaught, as Ava Hartwig and Cassidy Iddings each contributed three hits and three RBIs to fuel the explosive performance.
The win improves Covington's impressive record to 20-5 overall, and the Lady Buccs now set their sights on Jackson Center in a Wednesday matchup that promises more exciting action.
Monday's tournament opening featured just three local games, with Bradford defeating Mississinawa Valley 12-7 and Fort Loramie shutting out Triad 11-0 in Division VII play. Both winners advance to face tough competition on Wednesday, with Fort Loramie taking on Southeastern and Bradford battling Cedarville.
On the baseball diamond, Centerville continued its dominant run, extending an 18-game winning streak with a 17-2 victory over Versailles. Ryan Muchmore delivered a triple and drove in four runs, while Lucas Clark earned the win on the mound.
