Talk about a dramatic finish! The Springfield Shawnee softball team delivered a stunning comeback for the ages on Thursday, rallying for six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to snatch a 13-11 walk-off victory over Western Brown. With two outs and the game on the line, Byanca Dubie cemented her player-of-the-night status, launching her second home run of the evening to seal the incredible win. Dubie was a force all night, finishing with four hits, four RBI, and three runs scored to power the Braves' offense.
This heart-stopping victory does more than just add to the win column—it sets the stage for a colossal showdown. The win improves Shawnee to a perfect 15-0, and they now turn their attention to a massive Central Buckeye Conference clash against the equally undefeated Kenton Ridge (13-0) on Friday. This is the kind of high-stakes, late-season matchup that defines a championship race.
Beyond the headline game, Thursday was filled with standout performances across the diamond. In baseball, Springboro bounced back strong from its first loss, defeating Miamisburg 13-1 behind Kohen Hill's two RBI and Dylan Brabston's winning pitching effort. Middletown Madison extended its win streak to seven games with a tight 4-3 victory over Dayton Christian, fueled by Ashton Altman's bat and Owen King's complete game on the mound.
The softball action was just as intense. Tecumseh outslugged Piqua 10-9 thanks to a two-homer night from Kiera Matthews, while Bellbrook edged Brookville 3-2 in a pitcher's duel led by Lauren Nicholson's complete game. In a notable result, Coldwater handed St. Henry its first loss of the season with a 7-3 win powered by home runs from Derek Dues and Karsyn Homan.
Pitching excellence was also on full display. Andrew Elwer of Delphos St. John's authored a perfect game, a rare and remarkable feat, in an 11-0 win over New Knoxville. Regan Christ continued her dominant season for Arcanum softball, striking out eight over five innings to move to 4-0 on the year.
