For any hockey player, making your NHL debut is a dream come true. For Nashville Predators rookie Cole O'Hara, that dream became a "surreal" reality in the season finale, and he wasted no time making his mark on the scoresheet.
Just ten minutes into his first big-league shift, O'Hara showcased the hustle that got him there. He forced a turnover in the Anaheim Ducks' zone and quickly dished the puck to a familiar superstar name: Steven Stamkos. Stationed in the left circle, Stamkos did what he's done over 600 times in his legendary career, snapping a wrist shot past Ville Husso to tie the game and, in the process, gift O'Hara his first NHL point.
"A really cool experience, something I'll remember for a long time," O'Hara said post-game. "It was nice to have Stamkos put that one in." While the assist was a milestone for the rookie, for Stamkos it was another notch on a Hall of Fame resume—his 632nd goal. Yet, the veteran made sure to share the moment, celebrating on the ice with his new linemate in a gesture that highlighted the passing of the torch.
Skating on a line with Stamkos and fellow veteran Ryan O'Reilly, O'Hara got a masterclass in NHL-level play. His debut, culminating in a primary assist, is the kind of story that fuels every young player's journey from the minors to the bright lights, proving that with hard work, you can find yourself setting up hockey royalty.
