Portsmouth's rising star Adrian Segecic has been crowned the Championship's Player of the Month for April, capping off a remarkable debut season in English football. The 21-year-old forward netted four goals last month, including a stunning hat-trick against Stoke City, which propelled him to the top of Pompey's scoring charts with 11 goals across the campaign.
Segecic, who joined Portsmouth from Sydney FC in June 2025, made 38 Championship appearances as the club secured an 18th-place finish—eight points clear of the relegation zone. His electric form in April proved crucial, with the young winger providing an assist in each of three consecutive wins that ultimately sealed Portsmouth's Championship survival.
"This award is thoroughly deserved, and I'm delighted for Segs, who has really impressed in what is his first season in English football," said Pompey boss John Mousinho. "He managed to find top form at such an important time. He's still a young player, and there is plenty of room for improvement, so I'm excited to see how he can continue his development at Pompey next season."
The Australia-born winger recently switched international allegiance, making his debut for Croatia's Under-21s in a 3-0 European Championship qualifying win over Turkey in March. With the summer's World Cup on the horizon, there's growing speculation that Segecic could earn a call-up to the senior Croatian squad.
He beat out stiff competition for the monthly award, with Wrexham forward Josh Windass, Ipswich goalkeeper Christian Walton, and Norwich forward Mohamed Toure also among the nominees. For Portsmouth fans, Segecic's emergence is a bright spot in an otherwise challenging season—and a sign of exciting things to come.
