Porsche's future in IMSA's premier GTP class is under the microscope. Following the manufacturer's decision to end its factory Hypercar effort in the FIA World Endurance Championship after 2025, attention has turned to the fate of its dominant Porsche Penske Motorsport program in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

Urs Kuratle, Porsche's LMDh factory director, has outlined the critical conditions for the team to commit beyond its current plan through 2026. The central demand is a "level playing field." Kuratle emphasizes the desire for fierce, fair competition against other major automotive brands as the primary motivator for a continued presence.

From a technical perspective, Kuratle advocates for a significant evolution in IMSA's regulations. He sees a clear path forward: the integration of Le Mans Hypercar (LMH) machinery into the North American series. The goal is a unified technical rulebook for both LMH and LMDh cars, which would intensify competition and elevate the grid.

This evaluation comes on the heels of Porsche's WEC exit, a program that secured three wins and 15 podiums. The success of its IMSA counterpart, however, is undeniable. The Porsche Penske squad has been the benchmark, clinching 13 victories—including a historic three-peat at the Rolex 24 at Daytona—and securing a 1-2 finish in the championship standings for the last two years.

Despite this dominance, Porsche Motorsport is in a constant state of strategic review. Kuratle confirms the operation is meticulously assessing the optimal path forward, ensuring that any continued participation in IMSA aligns with the brand's core principles of technological competition and sporting integrity.
