The Barrie Colts have done it again. For the second straight elimination game, this resilient squad pulled off a dramatic overtime victory, forcing a decisive Game 7 in the Eastern Conference Final against the Brantford Bulldogs.
The Bobby Orr Trophy remains unclaimed for now, staying hidden in its case as these two rivals prepare for one final showdown in 2026.
Saturday night's Game 6 in Barrie wasn't pretty, but the Colts found a way. The Bulldogs came out flying in the first period, dominating possession and outshooting Barrie 19-9. Cooper Dennis gave Brantford the early lead, and it looked like the visitors might cruise to the Finals.
Barrie answered early in the second when Jaiden Newton's second goal of the postseason electrified the Sadlon Arena crowd. But the Bulldogs responded with a vengeance. Ryder Boulton scored a highlight-reel deflection for his first career playoff goal, and Jake O'Brien added another to push the lead to 3-1. The shots told the story: 38-17 in favor of Brantford through two periods.
Carter Lowe gave the Colts life late in the second, cutting the deficit to 3-2. Still, the Bulldogs seemed poised to close out the series. But hockey has a way of surprising you. A wild scramble in front of the net early in the third ended with Newton burying his second of the night, tying the game and sending it to overtime after a crucial Colts penalty kill late in regulation.
And just like Game 5, when their backs were against the wall, Barrie found magic. Despite being outshot 10-2 in the extra frame, Mason Zebeski roofed a rebound in tight to send the series to a winner-take-all seventh game.
But the real story was Ben Hrebik. The Barrie goaltender was simply sensational, stopping 54 shots and making save after save to keep his team alive. When your goalie stands on his head like that, anything is possible.
Now it all comes down to one game. The Eastern Conference Final heads back to Brantford for a Game 7 that nobody saw coming a week ago. For the Colts, it's about riding that momentum. For the Bulldogs, it's about regrouping and finishing what they started.
One thing's for sure: if these last two games are any indication, hockey fans are in for a treat. Game 7 is where legends are made, and both teams have plenty of players ready to write their names in OHL history.
