In a tense Ligue 1 clash at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, Lille OSC and OGC Nice battled to a gritty 0-0 draw. For Lille, the result was a missed opportunity to pull four points clear of Marseille in the race for a coveted Champions League spot. For Nice, however, the hard-fought point is a vital step in their mission to steer clear of the relegation playoff zone, now moving five points clear of AJ Auxerre.

The tactical battle unfolded as expected: Lille commanded possession, probing for openings, while Nice set up in a disciplined low block, looking to frustrate their hosts and strike on the counter-attack. Despite the high stakes, clear-cut chances were at a premium in a first half lacking in attacking fluidity.

Nice goalkeeper Yehvann Diouf emerged as a key figure, producing a spectacular fingertip save to deny Romain Perraud’s deflected long-range effort. Diouf’s sharp reflexes were on display again later, as he parried away a dangerous whipped shot from Matias Fernandez-Pardo at his near post.

The visitors thought they had broken the deadlock when Elye Wahi finished off a surging Mohamed Ali Cho run, but the striker's celebration was cut short by VAR, which correctly ruled him offside by the slimmest of margins.

The second half promised more drama. Wahi was put through one-on-one by Melvin Bard, only to be thwarted by a recovering Aïssa Mandi after a series of hesitant step-overs. At the other end, Chancel Mbemba rattled the post with a powerful header, and Hákon Arnar Haraldsson couldn't convert the rebound from close range.

Lille's best shout for a penalty came when Perraud went down under a challenge from Antoine Mendy. After a tense review at the pitchside monitor, the referee overturned his initial call, adjudging that Mendy had made clean contact with the ball first.

As the clock wound down, Lille manager Bruno Génésio threw on attacking reinforcements like Olivier Giroud and Ethan Mbappé in search of a winner. But Nice's defensive resolve held firm, their organized backline repelling everything thrown at them to secure a precious and well-earned point in their battle for survival.
