After nearly two decades of professional basketball, former Texas Longhorn and NBA champion P.J. Tucker has officially announced his retirement. The veteran forward shared the news on Instagram Thursday, closing the book on a remarkable career that spanned 20 years and took him across the globe.

Tucker's journey began at the University of Texas, where he played for the Longhorns from 2003 to 2006. During his college tenure, he helped lead Texas to an Elite Eight appearance in the 2006 NCAA Tournament, earning Big 12 Player of the Year honors and second-team All-American recognition that same season. His impact on the program was so significant that he was inducted into the Texas Athletics Hall of Honor in 2020.

Drafted 35th overall in the second round of the 2006 NBA Draft by the Toronto Raptors, Tucker went on to play for eight different NBA teams. The highlight of his career came in 2021 when he won an NBA championship with the Milwaukee Bucks, cementing his legacy as a gritty, defensive-minded player who could always be counted on in big moments. Along the way, he also spent time playing overseas, showcasing his versatility and dedication to the game.

Over his NBA career, Tucker averaged 6.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, and shot 42.5% from the field. But his impact went far beyond the stat sheet—his toughness, leadership, and defensive tenacity made him a fan favorite everywhere he played.

"20 years being my job but 40 plus years of not being able to fathom doing anything other than it," Tucker wrote in his retirement post, reflecting on a career that truly defined perseverance and passion for the game.

As Tucker steps away from the court, his legacy as a Longhorn legend, NBA champion, and one of the most respected role players of his era is secure. For fans who followed his journey, his hard-nosed style and unwavering commitment serve as a reminder of what it takes to succeed at the highest level.
