The Toronto Blue Jays picked up some valuable momentum earlier this week after they won two of a three-game series against the Los Angeles Angels. It was Toronto's first series win since its first three games against the Athletics this season.
The Blue Jays will return home to the Rogers Centre in Toronto for a six-game homestand beginning with a three-game set against the Cleveland Guardians from April 24-26.
Here's the pitching matchups for the series between Toronto and Cleveland.
Three-time Cy Young winner Max Scherzer will enter his start against Cleveland coming off his second quality start of the season.
Scherzer struck out one batter, walked one and allowed two earned runs on five hits in six innings pitched against the Arizona Diamondbacks on April 18.
Similar to Scherzer, Gavin Williams is coming off his second quality start of the year, in which he reached a new career-high in fanned batters. He struck out 11, walked one and allowed one earned runs on three hits (one home run) in seven innings pitched against the Baltimore Orioles on April 18.
Kevin Gausman is coming off his third quality start in five outings this season this year. He fanned four, walked one and allowed two earned runs on seven hits in six innings pitched against Arizona on April 19.
Joey Cantillo will be looking to get his season back on track after his second start of the season in which he threw less than five innings.
Cantillo struck out six hitters, walked three, hit another and allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits in 4.2 innings pitched against the Orioles on April 19.
Dylan Cease is coming off an outing where he matched his season-high in strikeouts against the Angels on April 20.
Cease fanned 12, walked two and allowed two earned runs on five hits in five innings pitched.
Slade Cecconi, like Cantillo, will be looking to get back on track after a rough outing. He struck out two, walked two and allowed seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits across five innings pitched against the Houston Astros on April 20.
Game one between the Jays and Guardians is scheduled for 7:07 p.m. ET on Friday at Rogers Centre.
