Manchester United starlet Kai Rooney has shared a very encouraging fitness update.
Kai, the son of United legend and record goalscorer Wayne Rooney, confirmed last month that he had sustained a season-ending injury.
He picked up the issue at a particularly bad time as he was in good form and making great strides in the youth ranks.
Kai made his Old Trafford debut in January, coming on as a substitute in the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup under former United midfielder Darren Fletcher.
During the 119 minutes that he was on the pitch, Kai contributed two goals and an assist, demonstrating the goalscoring instinct and prowess with which his father became synonymous during his tenure at the club.
The injury halted his momentum and he hasn’t featured since.
This has seen the youngster miss the remainder of United’s league and FA Youth Cup campaigns.
While Manchester City have wrapped up the league, United can get revenge when they meet in the final, which may be played at the Etihad.
A month after notifying his followers of his injury, Kai delivered another update, one that was notably more optimistic in tone.
The 16-year-old took to social media and posted a picture of himself wearing United tracksuit bottoms and football boots.
He captioned the image with the message, “Back running.”
It’s certainly an uplifting message, hinting that he is back on the grass and suggesting he will undoubtedly be back very soon.
It’s not the first time that Kai has had to deal with a serious injury. Last September, he suffered a foot injury shortly after being called up to the England Under-19 squad. He wrote at the time, “Life can’t get worse.”
These experiences, tough as they may be at present, will no doubt serve Kai well as his reputation in the game grows.
