The Plattsburgh Hornets flag football team showcased a dynamic offensive attack to secure a hard-fought 27-14 road victory over Peru on Wednesday, remaining perfect on the young season.
Improving to 2-0, the Hornets' success was built on a balanced offensive scheme. Quarterback Emma Koon orchestrated the passing game efficiently, distributing 28 completions to a variety of receivers. When the aerial attack met resistance, Plattsburgh seamlessly pivoted to a potent ground game. The trio of Emma Tuller, Cali Ryerson, and Zoey Frank proved unstoppable, combining for 172 rushing yards to keep the chains moving and put points on the board.
Peru's Nighthawks fought hard behind their own offensive leaders. Piper Deslauriers connected with four different receivers, with Brynn Bertrand being a primary target, hauling in nine passes for 66 yards. The duo displayed impressive versatility, occasionally switching roles, as Bertrand found Deslauriers for three completions totaling 40 yards.
This was far from a shootout, however, as both defenses were active all game. The contest featured numerous players recording five or more flag pulls, highlighting the defensive intensity. For Peru, Bertrand and Kenly Contessa led the way with six pulls each, supported by Gretchen King's five. Plattsburgh's defense was anchored by Cali Ryerson's game-high seven pulls, with Miyasia Do and Cheyanne Uihlein each adding five.
The Hornets' well-rounded performance, excelling in both offensive phases and making key defensive stops, sets a strong tone as they build momentum early in their campaign.
