Penn State offensive tackle Drew Shelton was selected Saturday by the Dallas Cowboys in the fourth round of the NFL draft.
Shelton, a former Downingtown West star, allowed just one sack last season when he received All-Big Ten honorable mention. Analysts projected him to be taken anywhere from the third round to the sixth round.
“I think Shelton’s going to end up being a guy who’s a little under the radar and who doesn’t get enough hype,” ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. said. “I think Shelton’s the one who hasn’t been talked about enough.”
Shelton made 34 starts at left tackle for Penn State, including five as a freshman in 2022 when he replaced the injured Olu Fashanu.
“He made steady improvements between his junior and senior seasons,” analyst Dane Brugler of The Athletic said.
Shelton became the third Penn State player taken in the draft, following guard Vega Ioane in the first round to Baltimore and quarterback Drew Allar in the third round to Pittsburgh.
