The college basketball transfer portal has been open for two weeks and will finally close today. It looked like Penn State might escape one of the most chaotic times of the year relatively unscathed, but they got some unfortunate news earlier today.

Senior forward Saša Ciani entered the transfer portal before the deadline in a move that is likely about finding a team with more playing time available. The Slovenian big man played more than 20 minutes per game with his old school in 2024, but struggled to get onto the court with the Nittany Lions, averaging just 10 minutes per game last season.

It looked like there might have been a bigger role available for Ciani with all of the players who transferred from Penn State, but he chose to leave regardless. The forward averaged 2.1 points and 1.9 rebounds last season for a team who could have used an infusion of talent at any position.

It won’t be a devastating blow for the Nittany Lions to lose a player who hardly played, but the team will look drastically different in the 2026 season, as many of the team’s top players are gone.
