Penn State basketball fans, get ready to welcome a proven winner back to the Keystone State. Head coach Mike Rhoades has officially announced the signing of sharpshooting wing Brant Byers, a Chambersburg native, for the 2026-27 season. Byers brings two years of eligibility and a reputation as one of the most reliable perimeter shooters in college basketball.
Byers arrives in State College after an impressive three-year stint at Miami (Ohio), where he redshirted his first season before exploding onto the scene. As a redshirt sophomore, he was a key piece of the RedHawks' historic 2025-26 undefeated regular season—a feat achieved by only five Division I programs this century. That run catapulted Miami back into the national rankings for the first time since 1999 and set a program record with 32 wins.
During that standout season, Byers averaged 14.2 points and 4.1 rebounds per game while shooting an impressive 39.2% from beyond the arc. His consistency earned him second-team all-district and second-team all-MAC honors, along with 27 double-digit scoring games—including six where he dropped 20 or more points. He also stepped up on the big stage, tallying 19 points and four rebounds in Miami's NCAA Tournament First Four victory over SMU.
But Byers' game isn't just about one season. The 6-foot-8 wing owns career marks of 770 points, a 48.5% field goal percentage, and a blistering 40.1% from three-point range. In his redshirt freshman year, he led the MAC in three-point shooting at 41.4% while averaging 8.4 points per game. He was also named the 2024-25 MAC Freshman of the Year, showing he can make an impact from day one.
"Brant is a proven winner and lights-out perimeter shooter who is an excellent fit at Penn State," Rhoades said. "His versatility and well-rounded skillset will make an immediate impact in our program. We're thrilled to get Brant back to Pa. and know he will represent Penn State well both on and off the court."
Before his college career, Byers honed his skills at the Perkiomen School, where he helped lead the team to the 2023 Pennsylvania state championship. He also won the U16 UAA championship with his AAU squad, proving he knows what it takes to win at every level.
For Nittany Lions fans, Byers represents a homecoming that could elevate the program's perimeter game to new heights. Whether he's draining threes or bringing championship experience, this is a signing that should have Happy Valley buzzing.
