Jorge Martin appreciated Pedro Acosta’s comments about his comeback, following the serious crash in Qatar last year that changed the course of his career.

The accident sidelined Martin for much of the 2025 season, a huge setback for any rider but even more so given he was the defending world champion at the time.

Despite that, Martin has returned strongly this season. Riding for Aprilia, he’s now right back in title contention, just four points behind teammate and current leader Marco Bezzecchi.

Martin has said before that he feels like a better rider since returning from injury. Hearing similar praise from Acosta added weight to that feeling.

A few weeks ago, Pedro Acosta told Diario AS that Jorge Martin’s return from injury is one of the most impressive the sport has seen.

“Jorge’s is another one of the greatest comebacks in the history of sport. After everything he suffered last year, what he has done is truly remarkable.”

Speaking to AS recently, Martin said he agreed with Acosta and thanked him for recognising how difficult it had been.

“Yes, I read it. I read it, and I completely agree. I really appreciate Pedro’s words. I think only the riders know what we go through.

“Few people appreciate it when things are going well, and only a very few who have suffered truly know what it’s like to have to be back at the front. I’m very grateful.”

The challenges Jorge Martin has had to face are ones that could easily derail many careers. Getting through them alone says plenty about him as a rider.

The question now is whether he can catch Marco Bezzecchi, who currently leads by four points and also rides for Aprilia.

This season’s title race between teammates will likely put pressure on Aprilia to balance support for both riders fairly throughout the year.

And while Aprilia won’t publicly back either side, they’ll probably lean towards Bezzecchi since Martin is set to join Yamaha next season.
