Reigning NL Cy Young Award winner Paul Skenes put together his second straight solid start, keeping San Diego hitless until the sixth inning of the Pittsburgh Pirates' 7-1 win over the Padres on Tuesday night. Skenes (2-1), who was rocked during an opening day loss to the New York Mets, struck out six and walked two in 6 1/3 innings while lowering his ERA to 5.54. The Padres' first of two hits against the 23-year-old was a clean single to left by Fernando Tatis Jr. with one out in the sixth.

Paul Skenes is quickly reminding everyone why he's the reigning NL Cy Young Award winner. On a chilly Tuesday night in Pittsburgh, the Pirates' ace took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, powering his team to a commanding 7-1 victory over the San Diego Padres.

After a tough opening day, Skenes has now strung together two impressive starts. He was in complete control, striking out six and walking two over 6 1/3 innings of work. The Padres' potent lineup couldn't solve him until Fernando Tatis Jr. broke up the no-hit bid with a clean single to left field with one out in the sixth.

The Pirates' offense provided plenty of support, breaking the game open late. Oneil Cruz ignited the scoring with a two-run double in the fifth, while a five-run eighth inning, highlighted by a two-run single from rookie Konnor Griffin, put the game out of reach. Griffin, the 19-year-old phenom, showcased his exciting potential with two key hits and a blazing run from first to score on Cruz's double.

Skenes' dominant performance, combined with a collective three-hitter from the pitching staff, secured the Pirates' sixth win in seven games. The series concludes Wednesday as Pittsburgh looks to keep its momentum going.
