The New England Patriots are packing their passports for a November showdown against the Detroit Lions, marking their third international game in the last four seasons. This Week 10 matchup is set for November 15 at FC Bayern Munich Stadium in Germany—a venue that's quickly becoming a familiar stop for the Patriots.
This will be New England's second trip to Germany, following their 2023 visit to face the Indianapolis Colts. That game ended in a frustrating 10-6 loss, with fourth-quarter interceptions from Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe sealing the Patriots' fate. The Patriots haven't ventured overseas since 2024, when they fell to the Jacksonville Jaguars 32-16 in London, dropping their all-time international record to 3-2.
The NFL is expanding its global footprint, and this game is one of nine international contests scheduled for the upcoming season. For the Patriots, Germany holds special significance—it's officially designated as a "home market" through the league's International Home Marketing Area initiative, which the team was awarded in 2021. Austria and Switzerland are also included in their international territory.
However, don't expect this to replace a true home game. Since the Lions are the designated away team, the Patriots will still host eight games at Gillette Stadium this season.
While the Lions struggled last season, their roster is stacked with talent. Quarterback Jared Goff, running back Jahmyr Gibbs, wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, and defensive end Aidan Hutchinson form a formidable core that's hungry to return to playoff contention. For Patriots fans, this overseas trip offers a unique chance to see their team battle a rising NFC contender on an international stage.
