The New England Patriots have officially filled the final spot on their 90-man roster, signing undrafted edge rusher Xavier Holmes. The move comes just days after the team’s three-day rookie minicamp, where Holmes was among 17 undrafted free agents trying out at Gillette Stadium.
Holmes, who transferred from Maine to James Madison for his senior season in 2025, put up impressive numbers in the Sun Belt Conference. Across 14 games, he recorded 30 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 6.0 sacks, and four passes defended. His ability to pressure the quarterback and disrupt passing lanes makes him an intriguing developmental prospect for a Patriots defense that values versatility off the edge.
This signing follows Monday’s earlier announcement that New England had agreed to a deal with safety Peter Manuma, filling one of the final two openings. With Holmes now on board, the Patriots’ 90-man roster is complete as they head into the heart of offseason workouts.
For a team always looking to add depth and competition, Holmes represents a low-risk, high-upside addition. If he can translate his college production to the NFL, he could be a name to watch in training camp battles.
