New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel will miss the final day of the NFL draft to enter counseling.

Vrabel has been under scrutiny after a New York Post report revealed he and The Athletic NFL reporter Dianna Russini were together at an Arizona resort. He addressed the topic earlier this week, saying he has had hard conversations with family and the team.

“As I said the other day, I promised my family, this organization and this team that I was going to give them the best version of me that I can possibly give them. In order to do so, I have committed to seeking counseling, starting this weekend,” Vrabel said Wednesday night, per ESPN.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport shared the news Thursday morning on X. The 2026 NFL Draft begins with the first round at 8 p.m. ET Thursday in Pittsburgh. Rounds 2-3 follow on Friday with Rounds 4-7 on Saturday.

“This is something that I have given a lot of thought to and is something I would advise a player to do if I was counseling them,” Vrabel said.

“I have always wanted to lead by example, and I believe this is what I have to do to be the best husband, father and coach that I possibly can be. This is not an easy thing for me to admit, but it is one that I know will make me a better person. I appreciate the support that everyone has given me and promise a stronger resolve as a result.”

Also on Wednesday, a report from Page Six showed new photos of Russini and Vrabel dining together in Arizona. On April 14, Russini resigned her position with The Athletic, although she did not admit any wrongdoing.

The Patriots, who advanced to the 2026 Super Bowl, own the 31st pick in the first round. New England has 11 draft picks in all.

Vrabel said he will be in contact with the Patriots brass on Saturday during the draft.
