The high school softball playoff picture is set, and the Patrick Taylor Tigers are roaring into the postseason with historic momentum. For the first time in program history, they've secured a formidable five-seed in the Division II Select bracket, a testament to a remarkable 27-6 campaign built on a challenging schedule designed to forge a playoff-ready team.
At the heart of this success is a true ace: senior Ashtyn Rogers. The lone senior on the roster transforms into a strikeout machine in the circle, embodying the competitive fire that drives the Tigers. Head coach Lance Reine leaves no doubt about her caliber, stating, "In my opinion, you’re getting the best pitcher in the state of Louisiana."
Rogers, a program fixture since seventh grade and a Southeastern Louisiana University signee, has been virtually untouchable. Her season stats are the stuff of legend: a 16-3 record, a microscopic 0.59 ERA, and a staggering 268 strikeouts. Her dominance recently reached a historic peak, as she shattered the Louisiana state single-game strikeout record with an unbelievable 34 Ks in a marathon 16-inning, 1-0 victory over Hahnville—a performance that followed a 16-strikeout outing against Chalmette.
Reflecting on the record-breaking feat, Rogers described being "so zoned in... really locked in." That focused mentality has propelled her past 700 career strikeouts and has been the engine for Patrick Taylor's unforgettable run. As the playoffs begin, all eyes will be on this strikeout artist and her team, ready to prove their five-seed is just the beginning of their story.
