The Green Bay Packers are fine-tuning their roster ahead of a pivotal NFL Draft, making room for new talent by parting ways with three players. The team announced the waiver of tight end McCallan Castles, cornerback Tyron Herring, and linebacker Jamon Johnson.
This move creates valuable space on the 90-man offseason roster, signaling the Packers' intent to be active participants in next week's draft, where they hold eight selections. Of the three players released, Jamon Johnson saw the most action in Green Bay, recording 10 tackles across two regular-season appearances in 2023, including one start.
Both McCallan Castles and Tyron Herring spent last season on the Packers' practice squad. Castles, a journeyman tight end, has also had stints with the Eagles, Chargers, and Rams. Herring previously developed on the New England Patriots' practice squad before joining Green Bay.
These roster adjustments are a standard part of the pre-draft process, allowing teams to shape their roster for incoming rookies. Following the draft's conclusion, the Packers will also look to bolster their depth by signing priority undrafted free agents, making every spot on the 90-man roster crucial for building a competitive training camp battle.
