An early look at what the initial 53-man roster after Green Bay's offseason moves via free agency and the draft.

The Green Bay Packers have largely wrapped up their roster-building for the 2026 season, with the draft and free agency moves now in the rearview mirror. As we gear up for training camp, it's the perfect time to take an early swing at predicting the initial 53-man roster. Here's a position-by-position breakdown of how things could shake out, including a pair of undrafted free agents who might just earn their spots.

At quarterback, Brian Gutekunst made a savvy move by not settling for the status quo. Bringing in veteran Sean Taylor and moving on from Desmond Ridder after the draft locks in the QB room. This leaves Kyle McCord and Kyron Drones to compete for a practice squad spot—a smart depth play that keeps the competition alive without crowding the active roster.

The running back room is a mix of hope and reliability. We're all dreaming of a healthy season for MarShawn Lloyd, who could add some much-needed explosiveness to the backfield. As of now, he's on track, and Chris Brooks provides a steady backup option if Lloyd's injury history resurfaces. Damien Martinez and Pierre Strong are legitimate NFL talents who round out the group, though they're likely practice squad candidates if Lloyd finally catches a break. Either way, the depth here is solid.

Wide receiver is where things get interesting. After the Packers struggled to keep everyone happy in 2025, the roles should be more clearly defined this season. Keep an eye on Jalen Sturdivant—he's my top pick to continue the proud Packers tradition of undrafted free agents making the roster. Bo Melton also adds emergency depth, giving the offense flexibility in a pinch.

Tight end remains one of the thinner positions on the roster, especially after the Packers couldn't snag a draft pick at the position last month. A veteran addition could still be in the cards before the season starts. Maryland's skillset overlaps a bit with Luke Musgrave's, but given that Musgrave might not be around beyond 2026, the undrafted free agent could offer long-term upside as a field stretcher. Josh Whyle will need to step up if the current group carries into the regular season.

Overall, this roster feels more balanced than in years past, with competition at key spots and a few underdog stories waiting to unfold. As always, training camp will tell the real story, but the foundation is set for an exciting season in Green Bay.
