Ospreys full-back Jack Walsh could leave the region at the end of the season with interest growing from clubs outside Wales, including French side Montauban.

The Ospreys are facing a significant challenge in retaining one of their key players, with in-demand full-back Jack Walsh considering a move away from the region this summer. The 26-year-old, a consistent standout over the past two seasons, is attracting serious interest from clubs outside Wales, most notably French side Montauban.

Ospreys head coach Mark Jones confirmed the club is in active contract discussions with Walsh but acknowledged the player is carefully weighing his future. "We've been clear with our stance and the contract we've put in front of him shows how much we value him," Jones stated. However, he added that Walsh is "assessing his options—staying versus going," and the region is awaiting his final decision.

Montauban, who will be relegated from the French Top 14 this season, are reportedly leading the chase. The ambitious club is already planning for a swift return to the top flight and sees Walsh as a key part of that rebuild. A move abroad would not only be a major shift for Walsh but would also end his potential qualification for the Welsh national team via residency before the 2027 Rugby World Cup.

Born in the USA and raised in Australia, Walsh joined the Ospreys in 2022 and has proven to be a versatile asset, featuring prominently at both full-back and fly-half. His potential departure would leave a notable gap in the squad's backline. In anticipation, the Ospreys have already secured Wales wing Tom Rogers from the Scarlets for next season, who can provide cover at full-back alongside Iestyn Hopkins.

The search for a potential fly-half replacement is also underway, with the Ospreys linked to Newcastle's Boeta Chamberlain. Coach Jones, however, played down the specific rumors while confirming the team is exploring multiple options. "We're looking at a number of players given the uncertainty," he said, emphasizing the need for contingency planning as they await Walsh's crucial call.
