Villanova basketball has landed a major piece for its 2024-25 campaign, securing a commitment from Oregon transfer forward Kwame Evans Jr. The move comes just a day after his former Ducks teammate, Jackson Shelstad, announced his own transfer to Louisville, signaling a significant roster shift in Eugene.

Evans, a 6-foot-10 forward from Baltimore, is coming off a true breakout season with the Ducks. After three years in the program, he started all 30 games he appeared in, posting career-high averages of 13.3 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.3 blocks per game. His improved play, which included four double-doubles and a 45.4% field goal percentage, showcased the potential that made him a coveted four-star recruit in the class of 2022.

For Evans, the move to Villanova represents a homecoming of sorts, bringing him closer to his East Coast roots. While he initially entered the transfer portal with the option to test the NBA Draft waters, his commitment to the Wildcats solidifies his intent to make an immediate impact in the Big East next season. He joins a Villanova program with perennial NCAA Tournament aspirations, adding significant size and versatility to their frontcourt.

His departure is a notable loss for Oregon, which had hoped to build around him after a difficult 12-20 season. Evans flashed his high ceiling with a 24-point performance against UCLA and a 15-rebound effort versus Northwestern. He was the first of nine Ducks to enter the portal this offseason and is now the third to find a new home, following Shelstad (Louisville) and Dezdrick Lindsay (Kansas State).
