The transfer portal continues to pay dividends for programs looking for veteran help, and the Oregon Ducks have just added a significant piece to their backcourt.

Fred Payne started his collegiate career with Boston College, but will take his talents west to Oregon, as covered by USA TODAY's Ducks Wire.

The Grambling, Louisiana native spent three seasons with the Eagles and steadily received more playing time and responsibility as his career went on.

It'll be interesting to see how Oregon head coach Dana Altman deploys Payne, but he figures to help fill the void left by Jackson Shelstad. Shelstad left the Ducks for Louisville in the transfer portal earlier this spring.

Both Shelstad and Payne are most effective when they take the ball to the rim, which might make Altman's game plan adjustment a little bit easier heading into next season.
